Our seed mixes combine quality seeds, nuts, mixed dried fruits, and extruded pellet foods. These mixes will provide your birds with a highly nutritious diet.
In addition to the dried seed mixes, we also produce two sprouted seed mixes, one for the breeding season and one for the non-breeding season.
Priam’s Sprouted Seed Mix – Breeding.

These mixes contain a range of pulses and seeds. Sprouted seed mixes benefit birds, as nutrients are more readily digestible than in seeds in an unsprouted form. Enzymatic reactions in sprouting seeds result in the breakdown of complex carbohydrate molecules into smaller forms, thus more readily digested. Rapid digestion of nutrients promotes efficient conversion of food to energy. The breeding mix has a much higher protein and fat level than the non-breeding mix.
Seed alone does not provide a balanced diet for birds. There are a number of diets available for pet birds that are nutritionally balanced. Extruded diets that are commercially produced and nutrionally balanced are available for birds on both a species-specific or a general maintenance basis. Seed mixes that contain dried fruits and vitamin and mineral supplements are also commercially available, which in addition to fresh fruits, vegetables and depending on the species, various forms of insects are essential to form a more balanced diet.
A balanced diet is essential when hand rearing birds. Pretty Bird Ltd, Harrisons Bird Foods, and Vetafarm are companies specializing in the successful development of hand rearing diets. Continual perfection and product refining have contributed to the popularity of their products amongst breeders.
Hand Rearing Diets
Hand rearing baby birds has always been popular amongst aviculturists. Commercially produced hand rearing diets have been available for many years. Over time, these diets have been specifically designed to meet the nutritional needs of developing chicks. Pretty Bird, Harrisons Bird Products, and Vetafarm have all developed hand-rearing diets that address nutritional requirements by promoting increased digestibility and solution consistency. Both Harrison’s and Vetafarm now produce a neanate formula which has shown to be excellent for newly hatched psittacines and passerines.
Extruded Diets
The availability of commercially produced avian diets in Australia has increased over the last several years. This has been a direct result of the increased research and breeder demand. Companies such as Pretty Bird, Harrisons Bird Foods, and Vetafarm have developed diets that address nutritional requirements of captive birds, especially parrots. These nutrionally balanced diets are presented in pellet form, providing birds in the home convenient access to nutrition they would not otherwise obtain.

Manufactured with fructose which is a naturally occurring ingredient in fruit in a smaller shaped nugget. Eclectus love fruit which should also be offered on a daily basis. 16% protein and 6% fat.

Easy to feed alternative to nectar diets and contains fructose. Lories love fruit which should also be offered on a daily basis. 16% protein and 6% fat in mini sized morsels.
Pretty Bird Species Specific Softbill Select
For the feeding of management of softbill birds such as toucans and mynahs. Manufactured with fructose which is a naturally occurring ingredient in fruit in a smaller shaped nugget. Softbills love fruit which should also be offered on a daily basis.
Iron levels are less than 60ppm, which is well below the safe maximum levels currently recommended. 18% protein and 8% fat.
Pretty Bird Hi-Pro Amazon and Cockatoo Special
Designed primarily for cockatoos and amazons, this food provides a higher protein (17%) and a lower fat (4%) to ensure proper nutrition and minimize weight gain in adult birds.
Pretty Bird African Special
Designed for most African species and medium and large conures, contains higher calcium, 14% protein and 8% fat in medium sized morsels.

Designed for species that require high fat levels such as macaws, golden conures and black cockatoos.
